Test Drive Meme - December - Merry Christmas and a New Year!

December has arrived! And it's a festive, very festive time for the people of Alola. You'll find that many local businesses are doing well this time of year as there's brilliant lights being strung up, in preparation of people, both tourists and people. The doors are open, the Christmas Spirit is in the air, and Delibirds have arrived to start taking letters to Santa! Mallow in particular has been a chief advocate of getting your letters into Santa, as this is the second Christmas Vacation coming up for the Fallers, and soon you'll be off school for Christmas Break which starts on the 18th.

You'll have lots to do, but soon, there'll be a aura of business as Christmas begins to loom closer and closer, as a sense of urgency starts pushing forward as the Delibirds seem more and more urgent...

A. Arrival

Another wave of Ultra Holes have opened up over the Island, alarms have appeared and the Ultra Guardians as well as Bewear has come into play. This time, the Fallers have been asked to intercept the literally Falling people who are coming out of the holes and brief them and bring them to the Pokemon Center, ie Immigration to get checked in. Wicke is there to answer questions but a few volunteers may be there as well. The experienced Fallers can get you up to speed.

B. The Alola Community Visitors Plaza

A venue usually for tourists, new Fallers are given a chance to see the main tourist area for Alola, in order to orient and familiarize themselves with the nature of Alola and Pokemon in general. A far cry from the disorganized mob that was originally there, this time, there are people set up in the stands, ready to receive tourists and Fallers alike. Pamphlets, interviews with locals and tour guides, Ride Pokemon to take you around the island, and various other places are available. Please look around, the choice is yours. This month it is decorated for the Festival of Lights, aka Christmas.

C. The Hau’oli City Markets

This is where the marketplace stands, full of fresh fruit and food. Those who are hungry can be treated to a delicious taste of Alola. Not once, not twice, but more times than they can imagine. Your coin is good here, even if it’s alien in nature. Even if you don’t have coin, you’ll be fine. Ohana. No one is left behind or forgotten. We’re not about to let people go hungry in this world. Nature’s bounty is for everyone, humans and Pokemon alike. There’s no need to steal, just ask the marketplace for some food if you are very hungry. Even if you’re shy, Miss Anela will offer you a snack. There's a lot of holiday treats.

D. Job Board

Odd Jobs have been posted here right now, thanks to the efforts of the people who have decided to help the Fallers out, and it’s also a help wanted board for those who want to earn some coin in the middle of the week before the beginning of the school year. Tasks such as bucking crates of Juice off a truck, to doing some simple paperwork in an office for a few days, and even tending Pokemon in a farm on Akala Island. The choice is yours. Get out and explore. There's a lot of decorating jobs right now.

E. Exploring the entire island chain

If you wish to explore Melemele, it is a big island, and there is plenty to see. There are Forests, Honey Fields, Hot Springs, Beaches, and many other places. Melemele boasts one of the biggest cities Hau’oli City, and is the capital of Alola. Here, up at the top of a large plateau is the challenge area where Hala offers the Grand Trial. The caves are full of Pokemon, and your Pokemon are eager to prove themselves in a Trial. There's plenty to see now, with Akala island, Ula'ula Island and Poni Islands also opened up for tourism.

F. Grand Trials

The Four Kahuna are accepting challengers once more. Those who wish to participate in the sacred trials are allowed to participate in the Grand Trials once more, to earn the right of the Z. With the goals in mind, you may undertake a Trial to earn a Z-Crystal first, and then take on a Grand Trial for a Z-Ring and a Z-Crystal. The choice is yours which to tackle first.

G. Festival of Lights

There's actually two Festival of Lights this time around! The Boat Festival where there will be several boats on the water displaying gorgeous lights which shine on the water, and the festival where the land shines with twinkling lights on the seventh. The first is on the 13th. There seems to be a wonderful time coming up.

H. Melemele General Hospital

Even Angela is working extra hard to make sure everyone's prepared for the winter, and that makes time for checkups, and other such things. If you've got the sniffles, this one is for you. But also, come chat with Angela, and meet some of the more colorful visitors from Overwatch Earth.

I. Aether Labs

Come review the brand new information that makes the Ultra Guardians go on the offensive. Which means, Aether Labs is open to the science community! The scientific community heads can now access the labs, and the resources within. Under the guidance of Wicke, Faba and, Burnet, you're allowed access to Aether's resources to build and invent and upgrade and repair your own equipment.

J. Alolan Steel Guitar Festival

Come listen to the native music of the people, leading into the city. You can listen, try out one of the steel guitars, dance, the choice is yours! Your world is yours to explore!

K. Lighting of the Banyan Tree

In the middle of the city there's a massive tree being erected. This is the Banyan Tree, and on the seventh during the Festival of Lights, it will be lit up! Come check it out!

This is weird. "I mean not gonna lie, third'd be great but I'm pretty sure tha' came down t' who faced who b'fore Yugi beat tha' other Malik...so I kinda figured I'd be gettin' fourth r'gardless after my duel... ...sure didn' duel S- Kaiba over it anyway."

He was sort of busy being clinically dead, and then busy watching Yugi's duel, and THEN getting off island...

"Ya just... accepted dat?" An incredulous note slipping into his voice. "I don't believe what I'm hearing." Shaking his head he added. "When would I- would we? Ever accept defeat without even tryin'?"

What he was thinking for some reason never flew to the possibility that he could have been deceased.

Katsuya looks incredulous. And also like the other grew a second head. "Acce- Look I did ev'rythin I could agains' Ra!" He snarls, standing immediately. "An I would've won too, 'ceptin' th' part where I jus' about died an' stayed dead f'r half an' hour fr'm there!" He snaps, already threatening to close the distance between them. "Unless you wanna tell me th' gold chick'n let ye' off easy?"

He shakes. He continues, pointing with accusation. "Tournamen' stopped bein th' point when one 'f th' docs got killed, got it? After tha', we jus' wanted that sick excuse f'r Malik gone w' enough time f'r th' escape...and no oth'r casualties!"

"Ya kidding me? Of course Malik-Marik... whatever didn't let me off easy!" This shouting match bringing back some of his less than fond memories of his failings. He hadn't been able to protect Mai or his other friends, but he had come so close! "... If I just would have told my monster to attack..." Said softer and more to himself. "Dead? though? Aren't you exaggerating? I mean I was in a coma for a while- sure.. but... not dead." Or were there yet more differences to be yet discovered?

"And you can stop waggling your finger in front of my face..." Reaching out to push it aside. "Wait- you for real? Someone actually died?" The shadow realm was supposed to be worse than death and from how it affected Mai, Joey could believe it. Still- death had a terrible finality to it of which there was no recovery.

"Look-.... I..." He tried to talk his other self down. "I don't have all da facts, right? I shouldn't have assumed ya wouldn't have challenged Kaiba if ya had da chance.... can we just... start over here?"

It takes a second. A second of old gang habits setting his face into a frown, a frown that didn't go deep but all the while spoke of a willingness to start throwing down. Two seconds. Three.

Four...

He holds the look, but ultimately settles for clenching his fists at his sides.

"Yeah, they died. Jus' b'fore Noa pulled 's all in- so we didn' find out 'till we made it. Damn near killed Ryuzaki while he w's at it too..." The expression twists as he looks down, shaking at the memory. "...Sav'd all 'f us from th' bastard...

"...But he'd agreed t' duel. T' avoid most of us f'r the tournamen'. ...'f we turned around, it'd be agreement over, an' we'd probably die. S...Kaiba didn' wanna risk tha'. Yeah, wouldn' say it until shit got bad but... ....I think sh...he didn' want most 'f us there. Already knew it was gonna get bad. Then it started goin' worse an..."

He sighs- and an odd look enters his eyes. "...hey. When you duel... ....what do y' see?"

For his part Joey wasn't helping as he wasn't backing down initially and he was remaining very much in the other him's personal space. If he'd been having some kind of argument with oh.. say .. Tristan it probably would have devolved into some roughhousing already. The only thing preventing it now was the fact that while this other Jou was like him they were also somehow very different and Joey didn't fully understand it. He needed the other to be able to talk in order to dispel some of that confusion.

Noting the movement he also doesn't react or avert his eyes. "Geezle..... " It was only after death was injected into the tale that he backed off a bit in an attempt to diffuse tensions. "Man... I don't even.... I don't know what ta say." Besides 'who is Ryuzaki'? "I mean.. it's not hard to tell that it took a toll on you.... "Looking down to the ground. "... but you all made it right? I mean... doctors aside...?" That sounded horrible so he muttered an apology on the doctors behalf. It wasn't right to rank one life over another though he wanted to hear that the friends in that universe came out okay.

Also he was starting to notice this odd pattern when Kaiba came up. "I'm surprised dat Kaiba even cared..." Huffing. Then he felt some regret for that too. "Naw.. I mean.. dats not really fair either........ " Thinking back to how Kaiba had sacrificed himself to allow Yami Yugi to finish the duel with Dartz. " I mean... I might give him a hard time... but Kaiba's not all bad. I swear if you tell him, I will wring your neck!" He's kidding. Probably. ".... You keep almost saying 'she' don't you?"

The look is a little unnerving. "What do I see...? Is this a trick question....?" Puzzling over it. "I see.... da duel?" Said as a question because he's not getting it.

There is...a slow nod. And a shrug. "...Woke up t' see Yugi's duel at leas'"" he says quietly, before simply snorting. "Heh! Wha', me? Nah, y' must be hearin' things!" He says a bit too easily, before carrying on.

"...Nah, no trick. ...Jus' curious, y'know? ...Shadow games 'n all tha'..."

"Sounds like..... it was lucky dat you woke at all man." Reaching out to clap the other on the shoulder in a gesture that was meant to be consoling in some fashion. "Yeah I tink I am hearing tings .. it's just what I'm hearing dats concerning me..." Not to be shaken off this time. "You mean Kaiba in your world is a chick?" There come the visions of a large chested, long-haired Kaiba to traumatize him later.

On the one hand, Katsuya is the master of deflection.

On the other, he is faced with his stubborn other self who would probably cement a theory even if he WAS telling the truth about Totally Not Knowing A Gal Kaiba.

Among other things. He scratches his ear. "Nyhhh, w' what you're probably imaginin', I bet not..." Even though. His face. Is reddening.

But hey- he gives an easy shrug, smirking as he sits back in his chair. "Heh! Jus' abou' what anyone sees I guess!"

He said, like a liar,

That was very likely to happen if this Jou was in fact telling the truth about not knowing a femme Kaiba. The blush creeping onto the other him's features was making Joey feel decidedly uncomfortable. His own hands flew up to his face to feel for any sign of growing warmth. "Tell me I'm not getting all hot and bothered over thinking about Kaiba... because I'm totally not!"

He was going to have to start referring to the other Jou as something else soon before his phrasing became too complicated to follow.

"Just give it to me straight. Yes or no? And if it's not what I'm tinking.... den Kaiba must be a total dog." Just saying.

The second lie is more easily covered by the disturbing Kaiba insinuations.

"Nyyhhh....Like I said, probably not w' what you're imaginin'..." Does he know what the other is imagining?? Probably not. But hey.

"I kinda hope not.. actually." Not wanting to feel a physical attraction towards any version of Kaiba.

"The heck does what even mean?" Confusing the pair of them with his phrasing apparently. Getting back on track he says. "Maybe I'm gonna regret dis... .but.... you gotta crush on Kaiba?"

"Please tell me I'm totally off base here."

"We ain't goin' anywhere near tha' topic until y' tell me what y' mean by dog..!"

"Looks like I hit a sore spot..." Which was still super disturbing to him. "I mean.... ya know.. unattractive. Not appealing...." Some flat-chested girls could be good looking but if Kaiba still looked masculine then .. no thanks? I mean... NO THANKS IN GENERAL.

Then looking at the other Jou he could see that it still really bothered him. "Look- don't get all bent out of shape over it. I didn't really mean anything by it.... it was just an expression."

"Nyyhhh...whatever man..." At least he's not being grilled about crushes he may or may not have-

"Anyway, 'f you jus' got here, where y' stayin'? Someone's gonna have t' lend y' a couch or somethin'..."

No, but he came super close to it.

"Uh.... where?" Reaching up he scratched his head, scuffing one shoe sole against the pavement. "Dat.. is a very good question. I was kinda betting on waking up....."

He sure was. It was taking some doing to get over his denial but as vivid as his dreams were they didn't usually go on at length.

"Aether, Ultra holes, Pokemon... I'm not gonna get used to any of deeze terms!" Lamenting having to deal with quite so many new concepts at one time. The panic was a little amplified from focusing on his essential homelessness.

Being 'processed' didn't exactly sound all that appealing either. "Cheese gets processed... people shouldn't. What exactly do deeze Aether people have us do anyway? Like.. they take fingerprints? Have you fill out miles of paperwork? What?"

"Well where do y' think everyone else is! We all jus' fell here man, we've got th' clothes on our backs an nothin' else unless we're lucky!"

Anyway. "Awww, you'll figure it out...I did, so..."
