Test Drive Meme - July/August

Welcome to sunny Alola! The sun is shining, and it is July! Which means it is the warmest, most tourist-y days of the year! And that means it is fun in the sun and there is plenty to do. As the summer days are out and the Pokemon School has yet to officially begin its school year, let’s give you some orientation prompts for the area.



1. Arrival
You’ve just arrived! While not an ideal prompt for your test sample, it makes for a good testing for your first reaction here! Having fallen, gotten off the boat or plane from another region, your passport is stamped and processed. If you’re a Native, there’s plenty to see, and can go about your day. But if you’re a Faller, there’s a tour guide waiting for you. Just hold on tight!


2. The Sandy Beaches

Perhaps you’ve had the time to acclimate yourself to the area, and just want to relax now. It’s time to relax in the sunny beach, throw yourself onto the sand and surf, and just chill. You’ve had a long,tough time, and now just want to sleep. Or maybe you’re too excited! This is another world, or another region! Perhaps you’ve been planning this trip to Alola for ages, and now its time to play! The choice is yours!


3. Shopping

What’s a trip to Alola without shopping. There’s food, accessories, more food, clothing, and tourism. Ride some Pokemon, find some things to do. Eat some malasada and shop at Aina’s Kitchen and Team Rocket’s Honey Donuts. If you want to escape the heat, there’s always the mall.


4. Pokemon!

Of course! Pokemon are everywhere. And maybe your Fated Encounter is upon you now. The Tapus are urging a Pokemon to come to you, be it in an Egg format to make its way into your hands, or perhaps a bird or a bug or whatever. Somewhere, a partner is waiting for you, you just have to meet them. And then, perhaps, you will be able to make friends! Just remember in this world? You don’t catch Pokemon -- Pokemon catch you.


5. Travel

There’s plenty to see on Melemele even in one day. There’s a lot of places to travel even by foot, and a lot of room, even in this place. There’s forests, hills, the town, the smaller suburbs, and beaches, an island off the coast, and the honey field even within walking range. Take time to explore and get to know the place, you may be staying for a while until the Ultra Guardians can send you home.


6. Battle

What is Pokemon life without Battling? Now that you have your Pokemon, you can battle with them. But Pokemon battles aren’t just about training but about forming a bond. There’s no such thing as levels in this world, the level system isn’t really a thing here. Sure there’s math and science to count the precise numbers of a Pokemon’s strength but we don’t dwell on this sort of thing. What’s important is forming these bonds with your Pokemon, and learning how to communicate with them, making precious ties with them. Eat, sleep and cherish them as your own family. Manalo, and Ohana. No one is left behind, or forgotten.


7. Freeform

Anything Goes! Come at you, this is a wide world, make up your own prompt!

I do not know the regions, yet. [Perhaps not the most intelligent thing to admit, but the child seemed more helpful than threatening, so Yotsuyu felt no need to dissemble.]

I suppose I shall, he'll need to be fed--assuming it truly is a he. [And not just assigned a gender because she felt that way.]

Oh, there's a actual public library nearby actually. I can show you there. My name's Lillie, it's very nice to meet you. And this is Snowball, my Pokemon. She's an Alolan Vulpix.

[Lillie looked at the Oshadwott and nodded.] I believe he's a he, yes. Professor Kukui could confirm it later on but I'm sure of it.

Yotsuyu goe Brutus. And this...would be Gosetsu, then. [Yes, that seemed right. Potential friend? Potential protector? Perhaps all of those and more.]

Yes, I think I'd like confirmation--that would be a bad name for a female. Just...not appropriate. [Though a slight chuckle was startled from her at that.] I would like to see this library of yours, too, if you'd be so kind, Lillie. Thank you.

Of course! It's just a block down the road. It's very nice to meet you Yotsuyu and Gosetsu. Are you two from Kanto?

[By the way they looked, they looked Kantonese, like Ash but...]

No, I am from Doma. [Gosetsu was from this world, even if he was not from this...region. Yotsuyu supposed the word shouldn't seem so strange to her--they even had regions on Hydaelyn--but the fact remained.]

So you said he should be fond of...oran and pinap berries? Will he eat others and those are his favorites, or...only those?

[She just wanted to be sure, all right??]

[Lillie blinked. Oh!] Oh, you must be one of the new Fallers then. That's amazing, you're from beyond our world! I've only been to another world once before.

They're his species favorite actually, but the fruits of Alola are good for him, as long as he likes them. The fruit and vegetables of Alola comes in many different flavors, and there's many other foods he can have. A Pokemon doesn't need to just eat berries and Pokemon food all the time. They're allowed food humans can eat as well, but it's good to have a balanced meal.

Snowball really likes malasada and Bewear Honey Donuts.

You have? [That alone has her giving the girl a startled and quizzical look. Just the fact that she'd actually been to another world before stunned Yotsuyu. She'd never even heard of such a thing before coming here.]

I wonder if he would be fond of fish? But a balanced meal--I imagine he would do fine with the things I would make myself.

[snowlillie]

Yes, well, months ago. We traveled through the Ultra Hole to save my mother. It was quite the adventure to be honest.

Maybe in the wild, but even though Pokemon eat each other in the wild, when they meet up with a Trainer, they tend to prefer berries and land-based food instead of hunting other Pokemon. We don't have the usual animal-life that other worlds might be familiar with -- it's all Pokemon here.

[darkenedmoon]

You don't? [Yotsuyu managed to look horrified at that. She was not prepared to...eat something that had a life as a somewhat adorable and amusing small animal. Ah well. She supposed she'd have to simply endure not eating things that had a face until she left this world.]

Did you manage, then? Saving your mother, I mean?

[snowlillie]

[Lillie shook her head, to assure Yotsuyu] We don't. Our people have lived in a symbiotic relationship with Pokemon since ancient times actually, and they've provided for us. Not like, meat or anything, no, that's gone out of fashion a long time ago, and the days of eating Pokemon have long since been gone in Alola. Nowadays, 99% of all living beings provide themselves on natural and sustainable methods.

As for saving my mother, we did actually. She's organizing a response to the Fallers as we speak, trying to get them all places to live and such.

I shall adapt. The kami know I have done so in the past, and it is less a distasteful thing to do so here, than some of the things I have had to endure. [And Gosetsu was certainly a charming incentive, as it were.]

That is good...it is fairly evident that you care for her. [Unlike her own parents. Still, it was something Yotsuyu approved of, even if it was something she hadn't experienced on her own.]
