Welcome to sunny Alola! The sun is shining, and it is July! Which means it is the warmest, most tourist-y days of the year! And that means it is fun in the sun and there is plenty to do. As the summer days are out and the Pokemon School has yet to officially begin its school year, let’s give you some orientation prompts for the area.

1. Arrival
You’ve just arrived! While not an ideal prompt for your test sample, it makes for a good testing for your first reaction here! Having fallen, gotten off the boat or plane from another region, your passport is stamped and processed. If you’re a Native, there’s plenty to see, and can go about your day. But if you’re a Faller, there’s a tour guide waiting for you. Just hold on tight!

2. The Sandy Beaches

Perhaps you’ve had the time to acclimate yourself to the area, and just want to relax now. It’s time to relax in the sunny beach, throw yourself onto the sand and surf, and just chill. You’ve had a long,tough time, and now just want to sleep. Or maybe you’re too excited! This is another world, or another region! Perhaps you’ve been planning this trip to Alola for ages, and now its time to play! The choice is yours!

3. Shopping

What’s a trip to Alola without shopping. There’s food, accessories, more food, clothing, and tourism. Ride some Pokemon, find some things to do. Eat some malasada and shop at Aina’s Kitchen and Team Rocket’s Honey Donuts. If you want to escape the heat, there’s always the mall.

4. Pokemon!

Of course! Pokemon are everywhere. And maybe your Fated Encounter is upon you now. The Tapus are urging a Pokemon to come to you, be it in an Egg format to make its way into your hands, or perhaps a bird or a bug or whatever. Somewhere, a partner is waiting for you, you just have to meet them. And then, perhaps, you will be able to make friends! Just remember in this world? You don’t catch Pokemon -- Pokemon catch you.

5. Travel

There’s plenty to see on Melemele even in one day. There’s a lot of places to travel even by foot, and a lot of room, even in this place. There’s forests, hills, the town, the smaller suburbs, and beaches, an island off the coast, and the honey field even within walking range. Take time to explore and get to know the place, you may be staying for a while until the Ultra Guardians can send you home.

6. Battle

What is Pokemon life without Battling? Now that you have your Pokemon, you can battle with them. But Pokemon battles aren’t just about training but about forming a bond. There’s no such thing as levels in this world, the level system isn’t really a thing here. Sure there’s math and science to count the precise numbers of a Pokemon’s strength but we don’t dwell on this sort of thing. What’s important is forming these bonds with your Pokemon, and learning how to communicate with them, making precious ties with them. Eat, sleep and cherish them as your own family. Manalo, and Ohana. No one is left behind, or forgotten.

She gave her a bright warm smile and headed over to her. "Thank you for the warning. Is there anywhere specific you could suggest where I could get a little sun and not wind up under a game of frisbee or over a war of sealife?"

She... was still trying to get used to the pokemon.

"This is a pretty good spot to be honest," said Lana, gesturing towards the spot just down the beach a few paces away. "Here, the tides don't come in as high and they stay low for a considerable amount of time."

"I'm Lana," said Lana. "This is Primarina, and Marin."

Her Pokemon chirped at her, as the girl in sandals reeled up her fishing pole and cast it out again. "I come here to fish a lot. You can catch a lot of things in the Alola sea."

Nadeshiko gave her a warm smile and spread her blanket where indicated. "Thank you, Lana. A pleasure to meet you. I am Nadeshiko Fujisaki." Temari floated over to the pokemon.

"I'm Temari," she told them happily. Nadeshiko watched the other girl with a warm smile to see if she reacted to hearing or seeing the small chara at all.

"Queen's chair," Nadeshiko continued with a small curtsy so that she wasn't staring for no reason. "I'm not much for fishing myself, but if you spot my brother, you might be able to talk him into it." Again that warm and friendly smile.

"Likewise. I'm a local here. I attend the Pokemon School actually."

She smiled as she dipped her line back in. "You can even fish up one of the most legendary Pokemon in this world, Kyogre actually in these waters. I've done it."

Her Pokemon greeted Temari, although Marin tried to give Temari a charging headbutt of greeting.

Temari flew out of the way, startled. "You'll muss my kimono," she complained.

"I'll admit I know very close to nothing about these pokemon," she said settling gracefully on her blanket before pulling off her t shirt and letting it fall onto her lap. "I'd love to learn though, since it seems we're stuck here a while."

"Vee!" Exclaimed Marin, nonplussed at having missed her tackle of affection. Primarina bonked it on the head with a fin.

"This is Primarina, she's my first Pokemon and the evolved form of Popplio and then Brionne. And Marin is a Eevee, the evolution Pokemon who managed to make its way here from another region by finding its way onto a boat and then surfing on the back of a Mantine."

"Evolved?" she asked, curiously. A lot of these terms were new to her completely.

"Pokemon evolve to a higher stage when they grow stronger," said Lana. "Primarina evolved from Popplio into Brionne, and Eevee can evolve into several different kinds of Pokemon depending on the conditions of its evolution. From a Umbreon at night, to affectionate care for Sylveon, and elemental stones for ones like Jolteon and Vaporeon."

"I'm sorry," she admitted, playing with the shirt in her lap. "I'm not sure I understand."

"Hmm, did no one explain how Pokemon evolve in this world to you? Oh dear," said Lana.

"Okay, so when Pokemon evolve in this world, they change form from different stages. A Pokemon can evolve, or change form as they grow stronger, becoming stronger, larger and different, sometimes their nature and Type changing as they do so. I'll get into Type later."

Lana drew a few images in the sand of a crude Popplio and Brionne.

"This is Popplio. This was how Popplio looked when I first met her. At a point in time, she evolved to Brionne, which is a natural evolution of Popplio. And then Brionne evolved to Primarina, who you see here."

Lana made several more markings as Marin stood still in the sand, making several symbols in the sand. "Now Marin, can evolve into different Pokemon, depending on the conditions that are set forth, being the Evolution Pokemon. It can only evolve once, so you have to choose and nurture its evolution path. See how many symbols I drew? There's eight of them. Marin can evolve into 8 different kinds of Pokemon, all based on his original form. With me so far? And not just these two. Almost all Pokemon have evolved in some way or another, except for the Legendaries wit some exception."

"Where I come from evolution comes from hundreds of generations," she said, twisting slightly to study the sand drawings" It takes countless years."

"In our world, it can take a matter of moments," said Lana, in a matter of fact tone. "Evolution and even Mega Evolution is a fact of life in our world."

"It sounds pretty amazing, I must admit."

"Yeah, here, it's a fact of life," said Lana. "The few that don't evolve are special, or are legendaries. Or have existed for centuries in a specific state."

"Are there classes or something where I could learn more without bothering you every time I have a question?"

"I can lend you a textbook for now, but the Pokemon School will be offering classes for everyone, including the Fallers who need primers. I think Professor Kukui is going to organize a summer school for the Fallers who get caught up on Pokemon Life actually." said Lana.

"I'll be helping to tutor that school, since my grades are good, and I can get some extra credit, and show people around. I might see you there."

"Thank you!" she said clapping her hands happily. "That would be wonderful!"

"No problem, I'd be glad to help. Alola's about helping others after all." said Lana, smiling.

"Thank you, I appreciate that," she said warmly, then leaned back a bit to look up at the sky. "Though I'll admit, I'm more used to giving help to others at school than needing to receive it."

"I'm used to helping Ash with his homework before class gets out," said Lana. "So this is not unusual to me. But I've never really met one of the Fallers till now."

"Are we really that big a deal?" she asked with a bit of a giggle.
