The camera going off is just a confirmation for Shay of someone else being in the area by the time his gaze snaps toward the foliage with suspicion.

"... That tree. Karate Chop." he suddenly announces. And immediately the kid has a few seconds to react between the shiny-morph trying to discern the reason for the order and deciding there can't be any harm in doing so anyway.

It's not a Bewear that's punching the tree (thank goodness), so like before it just shakes seemingly violently. And by that point, Shay has his duel disk primed. Normally his reflexes are instant in that regard, but depending on the bird to buy him a few precious seconds for grabbing it seemed like a preferable option than risking it getting broken.
